Resin selection for FRP boats and marine components

Start with the part, the production method and the conditions on the water. SIHE helps you identify a resin-family direction for your next build, repair or representative trial.

Start with the application

A hull, deck and repair laminate can present different processing and service requirements. A useful material request describes the component, its dimensions, reinforcement and exposure before naming a delivery grade.

SIHE's Marine Composite Resin Series is an existing product direction for manufacturing and repairing FRP boats and marine components. For an infusion process, review the dedicated Vacuum Infusion Resin Series and process guidance alongside the marine application requirements.

Choose a material-review direction

Bring the process into the decision

  1. Separate the component's structural requirements from surface and appearance targets; identify the laminate, core and any coating system already specified.

  2. Describe the production temperature and the time needed to wet out or fill the part. Public viscosity and gel-time figures are only meaningful with their stated test conditions.

  3. For repairs, describe the existing substrate, damage and intended preparation. Confirm a representative trial and acceptance criteria before extending the repair method.

Prepare your request

Make the next conversation specific

  • Component: hull, deck, panel or repair area; dimensions and thickness
  • Process: hand lay-up, spray-up, vacuum infusion or another defined method
  • Reinforcement, core and intended laminate construction
  • Water exposure, operating temperature and other service requirements
  • Current material, processing problem and target evaluation criteria
  • Approximate material quantity, delivery country and requested documents

Add what you know. Review or copy your summary, then continue to the RFQ to confirm the complete request.

Technical review

Final grade, cure instructions and suitability require technical review. No class approval, vessel certification, service life or performance improvement is implied by this application page.

Before you send a request

Can I request a sample?

Yes. Tell SIHE the material direction and what you want to evaluate. Sample specification, availability, cost and freight are confirmed for your request.

Request a sample
Which technical documents should I request?

Request the current TDS for the selected resin family or grade. The applicable SDS depends on the selected product and market of use.

What happens after I submit the RFQ?

The RFQ saves your complete request and provides an acknowledgement. A SIHE representative then reviews the material requirements and confirms the next steps.

Continue with related guidance

For resin flow and vacuum control, continue with the Vacuum Infusion solution. Use the marine brief to describe the component, exposure and acceptance criteria.
