Planning a Pultrusion Resin Trial: What Should Buyers Send?

Pultrusion trial preparation

For a pultrusion resin trial, prepare a brief for one profile and one production situation. Include the section drawing, reinforcement arrangement, actual or planned line conditions and the result your team needs to evaluate. These details give purchasing and production a shared starting point for the discussion with SIHE Composites.

This guide helps you assemble that brief and a usable trial record. The pultrusion application page explains the available application directions; the FRP resin selection guide covers the broader material-selection checks.

Identify the production situation

State whether you are developing a new profile, evaluating a material change or reviewing a problem on an existing line. Explain the decision you want the trial to support.

SituationInformation to lead with
New profile or material trialSection drawing and revision, reinforcement plan, planned line conditions and the required finished-profile criteria. Mark planned conditions clearly.
Existing-line reviewCurrent material identity, actual line conditions, the problem observed, its location and how often it occurs. Identify the run or sample that each observation describes.

For a new profile, open a new-profile technical request. For a production issue, open an existing-line review. Each link carries the relevant pultrusion direction into the request form.

Assemble a brief for one profile

Ask the production team to help complete the technical information. A profile reference and drawing revision make it easier to keep the enquiry, trial samples and review comments together.

  • Geometry: section drawing, dimensions, wall thickness and the tolerances that matter for the intended part.
  • Reinforcement: the known fiber type, arrangement and relevant material references. Identify details still being decided.
  • Finished-part requirements: required surface, dimensions, loading or other end-use criteria, with the applicable test or customer requirement when available.
  • Service conditions: where the profile will be used and any relevant water, outdoor, chemical or temperature exposure.
  • Trial purpose: the material or process question to review and the trial quantity being considered.

If you share a drawing or photograph, include the reference needed to connect it with the profile. Arrange a suitable sharing channel through Contact SIHE.

Record the line conditions and the observation separately

For an existing line, describe the conditions associated with the reported result. Include the resin and reinforcement references, recorded line speed and relevant die or cure conditions. Keep target settings and actual recorded conditions in separate fields.

Describe the observation before proposing a cause: what was seen, where on the profile it appeared, how often it occurred and which run or sample it belongs to. If there is an existing satisfactory result for comparison, identify its material and production record as well.

A useful record can say “surface observation on sample A, at the conditions recorded for run A.” That gives the technical review a traceable comparison. Record unknown information as “to be confirmed.”

Agree what the trial will be judged against

Before arranging the trial, bring together the requirements, the way they will be checked and the person or team reviewing the result. Use your part specification and relevant requirements to complete the criteria.

Review itemRecord with the result
Dimensions and tolerancesDrawing reference, measurement or inspection requirement, sample reference and observed result.
Surface and appearanceThe agreed description or reference, the area examined and the recorded observation.
Processing observationThe run reference, actual conditions and the wet-out, surface or cure issue being reviewed.
Mechanical or service requirementsThe required test or evaluation, its conditions, the result and the team responsible for acceptance.

Keep the material identity, trial record and review conclusion together. Evaluate the finished profile as part of the complete material and process system before increasing the order. Discuss the trial plan and applicable technical documents with the production team and SIHE.

Connect the brief to the resin family and documents

The current SIHE Pultrusion Resin Series lists SH296, SH298 and SH299. SIHE reviews the delivery grade against reinforcement, profile geometry, line speed and service requirements. Use the profile brief to support that review.

For the grade under consideration, request the current dated TDS and the applicable SDS for the product, market and language. The Downloads Center provides the public overview and document-request routes; the TDS, SDS and COA guide explains how the documents serve different decisions.

Share the estimated trial quantity, unit and destination. SIHE confirms sample specification, availability, sample cost and freight. Confirm the selected material and trial arrangement before proceeding.

Send the brief and identify the next decision

Use the worksheet below in your technical request. Explain whether you need help completing the profile brief, reviewing an observed problem, selecting the documents for a candidate grade or preparing a trial.

Choose new profile or material trial or existing-line process review. Copy your completed notes into the request details and review them before sending. For product lines, quantity units and contact fields, use the RFQ preparation guide.

Copy a pultrusion trial brief

Complete the items you know. Mark planned conditions and unknown details clearly.

Discuss your material requirement

Share your product, process and question with SIHE, or start a product enquiry when your requirements are ready.
